Winter Schedule 2010

Our Approach

We recognize evolvewell as a studio open to the various lineages of yoga, drawing from various traditions to embody the true essence of yoga or "union" through the union of diverse teaching styles and teachers. However, all yoga taught at evolve well will be heart-oriented, spiritually inspiring, yet grounded in a deep knowledge of optimal body alignment in the poses. Instructors encourage students to listen to the messages of their body, respect its wisdom and limitations, and to progress at their own pace.

Yoga systematically stretches and strengthens muscles throughout the body, increases circulation to internal organs and glands, quiets the nervous system, and improves concentration. A total system of self-care, yoga can bring vitality, health, deep relaxation, and peace of mind.

We offer yoga classes for everyone from moms-to-be, children, teenagers, families to seniors. Please see complete class descriptions under Class Descriptions.

Families that yoga together, smile more

Adult Open Yoga
The majority of classes are taught at an open level, unless otherwise specified. As we evolve, class levels will be catered to meet the needs of the evolvewell community. Within the intimacy of our space, every student will be offered modifications appropriate for their level of practice.

Deep relaxation is included in each class at the completion of the posture sequences.

Adult Beginner's Yoga
Start where you are! Basic level classes help you understand the fundamentals of building postures from the ground up! This class will help you open up areas of tightness such as hips and shoulders and get you moving with basic Sun Salutations sequences - safely. You'll be introduced to connecting breath with movement and the basic alignment in standing poses.

This level is perfect for beginners, those recovering from an injury, new moms or for a change of pace.

Level I
Intended for new students or those seeking a refresher. This class introduces basic asana, breath work and Sun Salutations. Level I sets a safe foundation upon which to grow a yoga practice.

Level I/II
Intended for students who have had a basic foundation of alignment-based asana experience for at least 6 months. Focus is on creating greater confidence in the practice while strengthening the body with standing poses, gentle backbends, twists, forward bends and foundations of inversions are also practiced.

Level II

This class draws upon a variety of body-mind techniques including Somatic Yoga, Feldenkrais, Ahimsa Yoga and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. For the release of stress and tension held in the body, enhanced body-mind awareness, and a more balanced and integrated state of well being. This class is designed to accommodate all levels.

Flow

Prenatal Yoga
A perfect opportunity for expecting moms to develop the flexibility, concentration and strength needed during the transformative time of pregnancy. Through yoga, breath awareness and relaxation, moms experience the special connection they have with their babies while developing trust and confidence in their body's resources for birth. Yoga can support the transitions that a woman’s body goes through, such as nausea, constipation, varicose veins, swelling, back pain and sciatica. A safe, open community allows you to freely discuss any issues, from discomforts and concerns, to the wonderful new changes your body and baby are experiencing. (Doctor or midwife's permission note required.)

Power Yoga
Power yoga is the Western version of Ashtanga yoga. This 75 minute class will increase your strength, focus and flexibility. Attention to detail and alignment while increasing your endurance, core and upper body strength. Learn to breath in a powerful way that will help you release tension, increase your mental focus, and balance your movement with your breath in this vigorous practice.

Restorative Yoga
Have a rejuvenating start to your week, which will provide you with energy for the rest of the week. A restorative practice uses a variety of props to support the body, enhancing the body’s natural ability to renew. Each class will feature 5-6 postures and then a yoga nidra practice. Yoga Nidra is a meditative guided relaxation that allows deep healing and rest to occur.

Children's Yoga/ Fun! Fit! Creative!
Fun! Fit Creative! Yoga classes can benefit your child in a number of ways by: developing strong and flexible bodies with an emphasis on balance and coordination; increasing their mental concentration, focus, and attention; and to build self-esteem and confidence.

Itsy Bitsy Yoga
Itsy Bitsy YogaŽ introduces your baby to the many benefits of yoga in the first years of life. Helen Garabedian, an Infant Developmental Movement Educator and Registered Yoga Teacher, created this program which includes more than 125 yoga poses and techniques for babies from birth to 4 years old (please note - this class is for infants 6 weeks to 9 months) that are developmentally appropriate and deepen the parent/child bond. A calming and nurturing yoga class where parents learn to help babies unfold their motor skills, sleep better, feel happier, and digest with ease.

For moms of all levels. Please bring a blankie.

Tween Yoga (10-14 yrs)
During puberty and teen years, immense changes are taking place in the body's chemistry and physiology. This class creates a special place for teens to develop comfort with their bodies, better understand the physical and emotional shifts common at this age, and have a space to relax from increasing academic and social pressures that they may be experiencing.

Teen Yoga (14-18 yrs)
With compassionate attention to each individual, we provide the tools for teens to grow through these challenging years and arrive intact on the other side. Students learn experientially how to let go of stress and balance themselves through the practice of yoga, including asanas (physical postures) pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation. Teens are asked to bring a journal or notebook to class.
