ONE-DAY WORKSHOP
Yoga
to Beat the Winter Blues
With Mira Tessman, MA, LCPC, RYT
Sunday, January 24th; 12:30-3:30
During the darkest season of the year, many people get
the winter blues, feeling sluggish, sad, and weighted down,
especially after the joy and frenzy of the holiday season
has passed. There is a growing body of scientific research
that demonstrates the effectiveness of yoga to regulate
and balance emotions, elevate mood, and increase a sense
of well being. Come learn and practice yoga postures that
help to relieve stress and transform winter blues into a
more energized and optimistic mood. In this workshop, students
will learn a flow of asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation
techniques that deepen the body-mind connection, stimulate
warmth and energy in the body, and that help to balance
chemicals that are responsible for an uplifted mood. Students
will seal the practice with yoga nidra, a deep relaxation
that allows the shifts and changes to be absorbed and integrated
in the body-mind. Students will carry away simple tools
to support them through the winter months into spring.
Cost: $40, $35 if registered by 1/17.

Moving into Stillness: Yin Yoga and Vipassana Meditation
With Mira Tessman, MA, LCPC, RYT
February 7th
12:30 - 3:30pm
Experience your yoga in the larger context of a contemplative
tradition. Experience a peace that is independent of changing
circumstances. Experience a body more open for seated meditation.
Yin Yoga restores and maintains the natural mobility of
the joints while energetically opening the body's meridian
(energetic pathways) system. Vipassana meditation encourages
clear-seeing, of life's experiences "as they are".
Combining the two, we explore patterns of reactivity as
we hold floor-based postures, preparing the mind for deeper
experiences in meditation. With an emphasis on stillness
and silence, we will use the physical body as a doorway
to understanding the true nature of ourselves. As postures
are held, layers of mental and physical conditioning can
be released, inviting clarity of experience and sensation.
Through practice, reflection and dialogue, we will uncover
hidden insights and gifts about our bodies, our practice
and our lives.
Price: $40 ($35, if registered by 02/03)

Breath: Building a Meditation Practice
“Now that all your worry has proved such an unlucrative
business, why not find a better job.” - Hafiz
We spend so much time in a state of angst, worrying, clinging
to the past or planning for the future. If we are to bring
light, wisdom and compassion into the world, releasing worrying
and fear, we must begin with ourselves. Meditation practice
allows you to listen deeply to your own inner voice, to
build awareness and understanding of yourself, your relationship
and the world around you. This foundations course will explore
various types of meditation, including walking, lovingkindness
and breath, so that the practitioner can begin to feel comfortable
in a sangha (meditation community). Each student will have
an opportunity for a private conversation with the instructor
about their challenges or questions about practice in addition
to group discussions.
