Massage Types

Myofascial Release:

Myofascial release therapy utilizes gentle, kneading manipulation that softly stretches, softens, lengthens and realigns fascia. After careful observation of your posture, the therapist will feel for stressed areas of the body. When restricted areas are found, the tissue is gently stretched along the direction of the muscle fibers. This stretch is held for a couple of minutes until a softening or release is felt. The intention is to allow the body's inherent ability for self-correction to return, thus eliminating pain and restoring the body back to more optimum performance.

Myofascial release therapy helps individuals with poor posture, physical injury, illness and emotional stress. During a session, disruptions of the fascial network are freed, providing freedom from tension in the bones, muscles, joints and nerves. Ultimately, myofascial release restores complete balance back to the body. Myofascial release therapy can be used to treat such issues as back pain, frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia, headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, menstrual problems, incontinence, tennis or golfer's elbow, shin splints, sprains, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle spasms, whiplash injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Session time: 120 minutes initial consultation, 90 minutes per session thereafter.

What is fascia?

Swedish Massage:

Swedish massage incorporates a variety of techniques such as gliding, kneading, friction, compression, and tapotment to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management.

Session Time: 60 minutes or 90 minutes

Deep Tissue Massage:

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. The purpose is to "unstick" the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply held patterns of tension, removing toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and therapeutic.

Session Time: 60 minutes or 90 minutes

Hot Stone Massage:

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, flat, heated stones. The warm stones are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. The stones are placed on key points on the body. The therapist then incorporates traditional Swedish massage while holding heated stones. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps to release tight muscles and induce a deeper sense of relaxation.

Stone session Time: 90 minutes

Thai Yoga Massage:

Thai yoga massage is an ancient healing form of assisted, passive yoga asanas (postures). The practitioner guides the recipient through a series of yoga postures while palming and thumbing along the body's energy lines and pressures points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boosts the immune system and balances the body energetically. Thai Yoga Massage stimulates and balances the flow of healing energy within the body, opening the areas which are blocked bringing the person deeper into balance and harmony for health, happiness and wellness of being.

Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a mat on the floor; both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement and flexibility. No oils or creams are used.

Session Time: 60 minutes or 90 minutes

Pre-Natal Massage:

Carrying a baby inside you changes your center of gravity and puts a great deal of stress on the back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes ligaments, so that the pelvic joints are less stable, and posture changes, as the pelvis is pulled forward. Prenatal massage can help to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots and improve circulation and mobility.

-------------------

Fascia is the soft tissue component of connective tissue in the body which envelopes and isolates the muscles of the body, providing structural support and protection. Fascia interpenetrates and surrounds the muscles, bones, organs, nerves, blood vessels, and other structures. It is an uninterrupted, three-dimensional web of tissue that extends from head to toe, from front to back, from interior to exterior. It is responsible for maintaining structural integrity within the body. When an individual experiences physical trauma, scarring, or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma, such as a fall, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture over time and repetitive stress injuries have cumulative effects. The changes they cause in the fascial system influence comfort and the functioning of the body.

Reiki

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that a "life force energy" flows through every individual. If that energy is low or blocked, then you are more likely to get sick or feel stress When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. Therapists work with individuals to remove these blockages. A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate healing on all levels - physical, mental, and emotional. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often utilized for one's personal wellness and not just for an illness.

Craniosacral Therapy

The therapist's deep, sensitive touch locates blocks in the cerebral spinal fluid that surround the central nervous system. Then, through the gentle manipulation of bones and membranes, restrictions are eased and all systems flow more freely. This treatment is may be good for many conditions, including migraines, chronic fatigue and neck and back tension.

Craniosacral therapy strengthens the body’s ability to move toward wellness by locating blocks in the cerebral spinal fluid that surround the central nervous system. Done fully clothed and generally with the pressure about the weight of a nickel (5 grams) the therapist’s gentle touch manipulates the tissue, bones, and membranes to assist in alleviating a range of illness, pain and dysfunction, including: migraines, neck and back pain, stress, and TMJ.

Jin Shin Jyutsu®

Jin Shin Jyutsu® (sometimes called a "physio-philosophy") is an ancient Japanese art of harmonizing the life energy in the body. It is practiced by gently holding "safety energy locks" along pathways that carry life-force energy throughout the body. This sequential touch, which can be fairly strong or incredibly light, helps restore emotional equilibrium, relieve pain, and release the causes of acute and chronic conditions. It is a beautiful healing art that embraces an extensive theoretical framework that includes relationships with color, sound, numbers, astrology, energetic-pulse listening, and much more. Like so many other powerful healing arts, the ultimate result will be a much free-er flow of life-force energy (also called Qi, Chi, and Prana), and more integration and harmony of body, mind, and spirit. Clients remain clothed during the session.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is an ancient form of Japanese Acupressure that began over two thousand years ago. In fact, Shiatsu means “finger pressure” in Japanese. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in which illness is thought to be the result of some imbalance in the natural flow of energy, or Chi, through the body. By focusing on Chi instead of muscles and connective tissue, Shiatsu gets to the root of pain or discomfort. Therefore, Shiatsu affects aspects of the physical body as well as the mind and spirit.

Shiatsu is typically practiced on a floor mat with clients fully clothed. Palming and finger pressure, as well as passive stretches are applied along the body’s energetic meridians (passages through which Chi flows) to achieve balance. When meridians are balanced, the body will be healthy and function properly. However, life’s stresses constantly test our limits and throw off our energy balance. These imbalances often manifest themselves as symptoms such as pain, discomfort, and disease.

The role of the Shiatsu practitioner is to take into account all symptoms and to assess the your energetic state to find the root cause of imbalance. The Shiatsu Practitioner will work with you to improve the body’s energy balance. When the energetic system is flowing properly, the body is able to heal and revive itself.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture stems from traditional wisdom that developed in and around China over a period of approximately 5,000 years. It includes the concept of qi, often translated as "energy", and is based on a persistant exploration of the parrallels between the rythmic movements of nature and how similar states (both in and out of balance) manifest in all aspects of the human condition.

Acupuncture is arguably the oldest, most commonly practiced medical procedure in the world and is used by one-third of the world as a primary healthcare system. In the U.S., acupuncture is performed legally by professionals that have completed national and/or state education and clinical requirements. Acupuncture involves the insertion of sterile, single-use-only needles into the body with a specific intention to elicit an appropriate movement of energy. The desired result is to offer the patient a concrete sense of spiritual, emotional, and physical balance. Effective use of acupuncture treats the underlying imbalances and promotes harmony within the whole person.

Acupuncture is concerned with the whole person and addresses itself on many levels of functioning but does have limitations. Acupuncture is highly effective when used in conjunction with other health-promoting practices. The report from a Consensus Development Conference on Acupuncture held at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1997 stated that acupuncture is being widely practiced by thousands of physicians, dentists, acupuncturists, and other practitioners for the relief or prevention of pain and for various other health conditions. Acupuncture has been widely accepted in the United States and has been endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

What can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture is helpful for acute physical concerns from headaches to joint pain. It has also been found effective for both acute and chronic conditions including headaches, chronic fatigue, depression, allergies, back pain, digestive disorders, joint pain, sleeping problems, infertility, menstrual disorders and other symptoms.

What are the benefits?
Individuals who pursue ongoing treatment for maintenance and the promotion of good health report: staying well longer and recovering from illness more quickly; improved stamina and vitality; improved capacity to positively influence their own health; reductions in long-term health care costs and tend to visit physicians less often; deepened and more harmonious relationships with others.

What about the needles?
Acupuncture needles are solid, slender - slightly thicker than a human hair - and bear no resemblance to syringes. We use the finest quality, stainless steel, pre-sterilized, disposable needles.

Does it hurt?
The treatment process calls for the needles to be inserted just beneath the skin's surface. Sensations vary from person to person with some clients feeling a dull, momentary ache or tingling sensation.

What will my visit be like?
You will not always be treated with needles at the first visit. The primary purpose of this session is to gather information. During the 90-minute session your practitioner will discuss your health concerns and have the opportunity to assess the underlying conditions leading to your current situation, perform a physical examination and let you know what to expect when returning for regular treatments.

Auricular Acupuncture is an acupuncture treatment which focuses on points on the ear. According to Auricular Acupuncture, the ears represent the whole human body. Each of these points relates to a part of the body: e.g. heart, liver, lungs, nose, eyes, shoulders, knees, etc. and therefore we can treat every part of the body through the ears alone.. It can be helpful for many illnesses and complaints, such as: relieving pain, nervous disorders, allergies, digestive disorders and addictions including anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia, pre-menstrual syndrome, drug, alcohol and tobacco addiction, amongst other conditions. Once the treatment begins, there is silent meditation for a period of time while the needles are in the ears.

Ayurvedic Wellness coaching

Ayurveda is a life science, which teaches us to live in balance with nature in order to bring greater harmony into our life. It’s foundation is that illness, weight gain, disease, disharmony and stress are all caused by imbalances in the body.
