Meditation

In meditation, we are continuously discovering who and what we are. This weekly gathering is an opportunity to learn more about meditation and to connect with other people that would like to become more mindful in their lives. Through careful and sustained observation, we experience for ourselves the ever-changing flow of the mind/body process. This awareness leads us to accept more fully the pleasure and pain, fear and joy, sadness and happiness that life inevitably brings. As our internal awareness deepens, we develop greater equanimity and peace in the face of change, and wisdom and compassion increasingly become the guiding principles of our lives. Each class will include a brief introduction to meditation with instructions.

Weekly Mindfulness Meditation with Trish Magyari meets Tuesdays, 7:30-9:00 pm. Students of all levels welcome. No pre-registration necessary. Donation based.

Each Breath: Building a Meditation Practice

“Now that all your worry has proved such an unlucrative business, why not find a better job.” - Hafiz

We spend so much time in a state of angst, worrying, clinging to the past or planning for the future. If we are to bring light, wisdom and compassion into the world, releasing worrying and fear, we must begin with ourselves. Meditation practice allows you to listen deeply to your own inner voice, to build awareness and understanding of yourself, your relationship and the world around you. This foundations course will explore various types of meditation, including walking, lovingkindness and breath, so that the practitioner can begin to feel comfortable in a sangha (meditation community). Each student will have an opportunity for a private conversation with the instructor about their challenges or questions about practice in addition to group discussions.

Session I: September 18th - October 16th
Session II: October 30th - November 20th
